The study of Humanities and Social Sciences is based on a multiple social sciences disciplinary approach to learning. The study is progressive, innovative and relevant with a focus on delivering a balanced Western Australian curriculum that provides an in-depth study examining the past, engaging in the present and planning for the future.
The Humanities and Social Sciences Learning Area is committed to the development of high quality educational experiences that promote excellence and equity in education for all students, delivered using the explicit direct approach to instruction. A rigorous, relevant and engaging modified learning program considers the range of our students’ current levels of literacy, learning, strengths, goals and interests and make adjustments where necessary to cater for individual student needs.
We provide a balanced curriculum in a technologically stimulating environment, which connects learning in the middle childhood phase of development to that of the senior secondary years of schooling. Students use ebooks and many of our staff are trialling the use of OneNote in their classrooms to better facilitate the distribution of work activities and assessment information. This approach is the ideal framework to enable our students to consistently achieve outstanding results in their final year of study and in their examinations in the disciplines offered by this learning area.
A new elective internship offered in Year 10, in partnership with Murdoch University, is a specialised course specifically designed for our students who are interested in pursuing a career in business ownership and/or being a leader in the corporate, commercial or legal world. Undertaking the Entrepreneurship and Innovation Internship provides students the opportunity to gain credit pointsupon completion of high school, allowing them to achieve one completed unit of work for their first year at university, while at high school.
